Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel

Your opportunity to share your experience in practice to support Council's work in developing College policy and resources.

The College is currently recruiting 12 veterinarians to contribute to the new Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel (VPCRP). This is an opportunity to share your experience and contribute to profession-based regulation of the veterinary profession in Ontario.

As a member of the panel, you will be asked to provide advice on emerging policy matters; feedback on policy implementation; input on communication strategies; assist in identifying risk areas; and identify emerging trends and challenges in practice.

Council appreciates contributions from the panel members. Members of the first panel indicated they valued this volunteer opportunity and saw it is a worthwhile opportunity to contribute their perspective and also learn from their colleagues and the College. The College strives to ensure veterinarians benefit from volunteering in support of profession-based regulation.

Membership to the panel will be selected to ensure equitable representation from across the broad veterinary community. As well as those whose practice includes companion animals, equine and food animals, membership will include those whose practice includes wildlife or exotics. The panel will also include individuals who work in shelter medicine, public health, regulatory medicine, and a student from the Ontario Veterinary College. Practice owners, rural veterinarians, internationally educated veterinarians, locums and those from a diverse background are also encouraged to participate.

To be eligible to serve on the panel, you are asked to have:

  • A licence with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario
  • Five years experience in practice
  • No complaints or discipline history in the past six years
  • Not been a member of a College committee in the past three years.
  • A schedule that enables you to attend meetings

The panel will meet at least three times annually, one of which will be a meeting with Council.

A per diem will be provided and meeting expenses will be covered.
