Advisory Panel Input
In 2018, College Council established two advisory panels to assist Council by providing input and perspective from the general public and the veterinary profession.
Public Advisory Panel:
The Public Advisory Panel meets three times a year and offers input to Council on policy matters, College communications and trends in animals, animal care from the public perspective.
The panel includes representation from the following sectors: companion animal, equine, food-producing animal, pharmaceutical industry, public health and food processing.
The members of the Public Advisory Panel serve a three-year term.
Speaking Frankly: September 2018
A report on the first meeting of the Public Advisory Panel with College Council was held in September 2018. Discussion included opportunities for the College to form broader connections with the public, areas where the panel can support Council’s work, and suggestions for communication outreach.
Veterinary Practice Advisory Panel:
The Veterinary Practice Advisory Panel meets at least three times a year and provides advice and feedback to Council on policy matters, engagement with the veterinary community, and trends in practice.
The panel includes representation from the following areas of veterinary practice: companion animal, shelter medicine, regulatory medicine, equine, bovine, swine, small ruminant, poultry, wildlife/zoo, exotic/bee/aquatic, and an OVC student.
The members of the Veterinary Practice Advisory Panel serve a three-year term.

The first meeting of the Veterinary Practice Advisory Panel and College Council was held in March 2019. Discussion included professional trends and challenges, increasing veterinary involvement in public consultations, and how Council can best utilize the panel.
