College announces results of recent election

October 15, 2013

The College of Veterinarians of Ontario is welcoming new members following the election held on October 8, 2013.

Dr. Steven Jacobs was elected in district #6 which includes veterinarians based in Wellington. Dr. James Vanhie was acclaimed for a second term in district #1, the areas including Essex, Kent, Lambton and Middlesex. As well, Dr. Carolyn Kerr is the new Councillor in district #4, the University of Guelph. The newly elected members will join Council at the Annual Council meeting on November 20, 2013.

The College conducted its election process electronically again this year with a substantial increase in voter participation with the ease of online voting. Over 40 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots in this year’s election.

The College extends its gratitude to those Councillors whose terms are expiring this year – Dr. Peter Conlon and Dr. Barbara Leslie. Your service and contribution has been greatly appreciated and has made a meaningful difference.

The College Council is composed of 13 veterinarians, who are elected by their peers, and three to five public members, who are appointed by the provincial government. Members of Council protect and serve the public interest through regulation of the practice of veterinary medicine.
