Jurisprudence Exam Information

Applicants seeking a General, Restricted, Academic and Post-graduate and Resident Licence in Ontario are required to successfully complete the Jurisprudence Examination. The exam requires applicants to demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to apply relevant Ontario legislation and regulations, as well as College standards and guidelines. This exam is approved by the College’s Registration Committee.

Important Note: The College will be launching an updated Jurisprudence Exam on Tuesday September 4th, 2018. Please follow the instructions below and use the appropriate links to prepare for the exam.

Instructions if you are taking the exam before Sept. 4, 2018

If you will be taking the exam before Tuesday September 4th, 2018, please follow the below instructions:

The College has created two documents to support applicants in successfully completing the exam. Applicants should read and review these documents:

The Jurisprudence Examination Workbook version 03/2017 provides an overview of applicable legislation, regulations, College standards, guidelines and policies. The workbook provides links to reference materials at the end of each chapter that candidates are expected to review.

The Jurisprudence Examination Candidate Instruction Guide version 07/2018 contains information about applying to sit the exam, test locations, format, blueprint, sample questions, scoring and policies.

The duration of this exam is a maximum of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The duration of this exam is a maximum of 3 hours.

General Exam Quick Facts:

  • The fee to write the exam is $175 + HST. The exam fee is applicable to every sitting.
  • Candidates are responsible for scheduling the date and location of the exam after receiving notification from the College that they are eligible to take the exam. It is advised that candidates provide the testing facility with two weeks notice.
  • Candidates may attempt the exam a maximum of two times before remediation is required.
