The rules about approving emeritus status have always been in the College By-laws. In 2011, Council considered changes to Regulation 1093 and included moving these rules from the By-laws to regulation. In 2013, during review of these proposed amendments, the government advised the College that there is no authority for these rules to be in the By-laws or in regulation. As a result, the current By-law is now being moved into a College policy. No changes have made to either the emeritus status or its criteria. The proposed change was circulated to licensed members for comment as it is a change to the College By-Laws. Licensed members must be notified and provided an opportunity to comment while it is clear that there are no other options for the College in order to retain this honourary status.
