Reports from Community Reference Panels
In 2018, College Council established two panels to assist Council by providing input and perspective from the general public and the veterinary profession. After the first three-year-term, the panels were re-established as community reference panels.
Public Community Reference Panel:
The Public Community Reference Panel meets three times a year and offers input to Council on policy matters, College communications and trends in animals, animal care from the public perspective.
The panel includes representation from the following sectors: companion animal, equine, food-producing animal, pharmaceutical industry, public health and food processing.
The members of the Public Community Reference Panel serve a three-year term.
Public Community Reference Panel - Speaking Frankly 2023
February: A report on the Public Community Reference Panel meeting which was held in February 2023. Topics discussed included the consultation on the Veterinarians Act, veterinary dentistry, in-person Council meeting, the veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and trends for consideration.
Public Community Reference Panel - Speaking Frankly 2022
October: A report of the Public Community Reference Panel meeting which was held in October 2022. Topics discussed included informed client consent, shared care in animal rehabilitation, balanced client access, Community Connection (public newsletter), and trends.
May: A report on the Public Community Reference Panel meeting which was held in May 2022. Topics discussed included collaborative care, after hours care and strategic planning.
February: A report on the Public Community Reference Panel meeting which was held in February 2022. Topics discussed included the veterinarian-client-patient relationship, spectrum of care, and trends or issues for consideration.

A report on the first meeting of the newly established Public Community Reference Panel was held in September 2021. Topics discussed included telemedicine, caveat emptor/buyer beware, and trends or issues for consideration.

A report of the panel's meeting from February 2021. Discussion focused on the 2020 Annual Report, work on diversity, equity and inclusion, and future trends.
Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel:
The Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel meets at least three times a year and provides advice and feedback to Council on policy matters, engagement with the veterinary community, and trends in practice.
The panel includes representation from the following areas of veterinary practice: companion animal, shelter medicine, regulatory medicine, equine, bovine, swine, small ruminant, poultry, wildlife/zoo, exotic/bee/aquatic, and an OVC student.
The members of the Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel serve a three-year term.

February: A report of the panel's meeting from February 2023. The key areas discussed by the panel were the consultation on the Veterinarians Act, veterinary dentistry, returing to in-person Council meetings, the veterinarian-client-patient relationship and general trends.
Veterinary Practice Community Reference Panel - Speaking Frankly 2022
October: A report of the panel's meeting from October 2022. The key areas discussed by the panel were standard of care, shared care in animal rehabilitation, informed client consent, and the North American Essential Competencies Profile.
May: A report of the panel's meeting from May 2022. The key areas discussed by the panel were spectrum of care, use of your licence, communication strategies and strategic planning.
February: A report of the panel's meeting from February 2022. The key areas discussed by the panel were telemedicine, animal welfare, a consultation on the veterinarian-client-patient relationship standard and general trends.
September 2021 - Speaking Frankly
