Council Overview
The Council is the governing body of the veterinary profession in Ontario, and its composition and powers are proclaimed in the Veterinarians Act. With this mandate, Council’s primary focus is on its core mandate of protecting the public interest by way of licensure, accreditation, standard setting, investigations, hearings and quality assurance programs.
Further, Council’s stewardship role includes setting strategic directions, making policy decisions, monitoring itself and the organization and ensuring the financial soundness of the College. To fulfill its broad mandate, Council members use their knowledge and understanding of the profession to make all of its decisions in the public interest.
