Appeal Process

An appeal process is available to those involved in Complaints Committee cases.
Appeal Process

An appeal process is available to the complainant or the veterinarian(s) involved in a Complaints Committee case, unless the Committee's decision was to refer the matter to the Discipline Committee. Either party may request a review of a Complaints Committee’s decision by an arms-length provincial board, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board within 30 days of the decision.

The Health Professions Appeal and Review Board reviews the decision to determine whether the Complaints Committee's investigation was adequate or whether the decision was reasonable.  The board has the authority to confirm the decision of the Complaints Committee or return it with recommendations for reconsideration by the committee. However, neither the College nor the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board has any authority to award monies or damages in a complaint matter.
