Temporary Facilities

Under certain circumstances, the College provides opportunities for programs or clinics, such as rabies or microchip clinics, to operate from an unaccredited facility.

Temporary Facilities

The College provides opportunities for veterinarians to conduct programs or clinics from an unaccredited facility. These programs or clinics are referred to as temporary facilities. Currently, the College has the following temporary facilities:

  1. Rabies clinics
  2. Conducting programs for the implementation of electronic identification devices in companion animals
  3. Cardiac screening programs
  4. Congenital deafness screening programs for companion animals
  5. Ophthalmic screening programs

The purpose of the temporary facilities is to provide veterinary services to multiple animals at one time and one location to meet a specific purpose or demand. For example, the purpose of the rabies clinics is to vaccinate animals against rabies which is an important public health measure, or the ophthalmic screening program which facilitates access to the services provided by a specialist to screen for hereditary ophthalmic conditions. The temporary facilities are either initiated by the veterinarian themselves or based on a request from an outside agency.

The College has policy statements which describe the circumstances under which a veterinarian is permitted to conduct a temporary facility and has in place an appropriate application process for the veterinarian to follow.

The College typically takes five business days to process an application for a temporary facility. The online application forms are available below.

Rabies Clinic Report Form

Following the completion of a rabies clinic, an automated email with a link to the Rabies Data Report form will be sent to the sponsoring veterinarian.  The link will be available for two weeks after the completion of the rabies clinic.

Information collected on the rabies clinic report form includes:

  • number of cats vaccinated
  • number of dogs vaccinated
  • number of animals reported to have bitten a person in 10 days prior to the date of the proposed rabies vaccination
  • number of animals with no prior vaccination history
  • number of clients with no primary care veterinarian
  • number of Exemption Certificates issued
